No smiley faces in term papers, please

The development of technology has directly impacted our writing skills for the worse. Abbreviations of words, acronyms, and auto correct has caused us to forget the proper and grammatically correct way to write formally. Perhaps it is the relaxed and informal tone of texting at the root of this problem. This generation spends so much time texting that it becomes their normal written communication, and arguably an obsession. I also find myself guilty of using grammatically incorrect sentence structure in formal papers. With stricter emphasis placed on grammar I believe I can improve my writing skills in preparation for college.
